Liverpool’s star forward Mohamed Salah, who signed a contract extension at the end of the 2024/25 season, is reportedly set to depart the club in the summer of 2026 to join a Saudi Arabian team, according to an exclusive report by FootballTransfers on August 6, 2025. Despite interest from Saudi clubs last season, Liverpool’s hierarchy and fan pressure convinced the 33-year-old Egyptian to extend his contract, believed to run until 2027. However, sources indicate Salah will not see out the full term and plans to move to the Saudi Pro League next year.
In a May 2025 interview, Salah expressed openness to joining the Saudi League, stating, “I thought there was a good opportunity to join the Saudi League. I believed I might go there if I didn’t renew my contract with Liverpool. My relationship with people there [in Saudi Arabia] is still good and ongoing. There were serious negotiations to sign me. Liverpool fans were part of the contract renewal process; they put pressure on the management because I’ve been at the club for seven years. From day one, I knew they wanted me to stay.”
Salah, who joined Liverpool from Roma in 2017 for £36.9 million, has since become one of Anfield’s greatest players, scoring 223 goals and providing 103 assists in 367 appearances as of August 2025. His contributions include a Premier League title, a Champions League trophy, and multiple individual accolades. Posts on X reflect mixed sentiments, with some fans praising his legacy, noting he’ll leave as a “legend,” while others lament his potential exit, citing his 12 goals and nine assists in the 2024/25 Premier League season.
Barring a significant change, Salah’s departure in 2026 will mark the end of an era for Liverpool, with the club already linked to potential replacements like Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon.
