Missing Indonesian Farmer Found Dead Inside 8-Meter Python in South Buton

A 63-year-old Indonesian farmer, reported missing since Friday morning, was found dead inside an 8-meter-long python in Southeast Sulawesi’s South Buton District, according to a report by Antara.

The head of the emergency and logistics division of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of South Buton, Laode Risawal, stated that the victim, identified as LN, failed to return home from his plantation. His body was discovered at 2:30 p.m. local time on July 7, 2025, in Majapahit Village.

“The victim, a farmer, was found by residents who discovered LN had been swallowed by a snake,” Mr. Risawal said.

Residents grew suspicious when they noticed an enormous python struggling in the plantation, appearing to have consumed something large. After killing the snake and cutting it open, they were shocked to find the farmer’s body inside. Authorities and locals then transported LN’s body to his home.

Mr. Risawal noted that this incident marks the first time a resident has been swallowed by a python in the area. However, he added that snakes are frequently spotted in the village, particularly during the rainy season, often attacking livestock.
