Chukwuebuka Eweni, a 27-year-old Nigerian man said to be suffering from mental health issues, has allegedly stabbed his father to death in New Orleans, USA. He also allegedly stabbed his two sisters.
Local media reports say police in New Orleans have since arrested Chukwuebuka.
His family members reportedly told WWL Louisiana, a local newspaper that he had long battled an undisclosed mental illness. However, the family members reportedly said he was never violent until last Tuesday.
WWL Louisiana reported the family as saying evening of that fatal day was ordinary until Chukwuebuka grabbed a knife and stabbed his father, Samuel Eweni, and his two sisters.
Samuel is said to be a professor of computer sciences at the Southern University, New Orleans. Reports say he was pronounced dead at the scene of the knife attack by his son.
According to reports, following the attack, Chukwuebuka visited the New Orleans East Hospital where he was routinely checking himself in for mental support, to seek help.
The hospital – said to be unaware of the crime – reportedly transferred Chukwuebuka to another health facility in Jefferson Parish, where police accordingly tracked him down and took him into custody.
