Man Who Confessed to Killing Woman at Bus Stop Sentenced to Life in Prison

A 21-year-old man who calmly told police officers, “I’ve killed someone,” has been jailed for life after admitting to the murder of a woman who had been staying at his mother’s home in Dartford, Kent.

Ernestas Juska, described in court as a socially isolated young man with a growing obsession with violent online content, attacked 39-year-old Nina Denisova in the early hours of 17 August 2024. Ms Denisova had been visiting Juska’s family and was asleep in a spare room when the incident occurred.

After spending the evening drinking with relatives and guests, Juska moved through the house early the next morning and armed himself with a kitchen knife. He fatally attacked Ms Denisova while she slept. Prosecutors said Juska later told officers he had acted on disturbing thoughts he had been harbouring.

Following the killing, Juska walked to a nearby bus stop and quietly asked a passer-by to call the police. Body-worn camera footage later showed him sitting on the pavement, appearing calm as he informed an approaching officer that he had killed “a friend of my mum’s.”

In interviews, Juska provided accounts that detectives described as emotionally detached, telling police he felt a sense of “excitement” beforehand and that he “didn’t feel anything” afterward.

At today’s sentencing, Mr Justice Dexter Dias KC told Juska that the final moments of Ms Denisova’s life would have been “unimaginably distressing,” stressing that the attack was entirely unprovoked and rooted in Juska’s escalating fixation with violent material.

The judge imposed a life sentence with a minimum term of 24 years and seven months, noting the brutality of the offence and the vulnerability of the victim, who had been asleep and unaware of the danger she faced.

Ms Denisova’s death has left her family and friends devastated, with the court hearing that she had been a long-time acquaintance of the household and had simply been staying overnight after an evening spent with friends.
