Man Declared Wanted in Edo, Nigeria Over Alleged Chemical Assault on Girlfriend

Authorities in Edo State have begun searching for a man identified as Timothy Gilbert, who allegedly attacked his girlfriend, Angela Ogah, with a corrosive substance in the Amufi area of Ikpoba-Okha Local Government.

The incident reportedly occurred late last week, drawing attention from residents who alerted local authorities. Ogah’s legal representative, John Izegaegbe, confirmed on Monday, November 24, 2025, that she is receiving intensive treatment at a private hospital. According to him, her condition remains serious, and she has had difficulty speaking since the attack.

Izegaegbe explained that a formal petition has been submitted to the Edo State Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, urging swift action to apprehend the suspect. He emphasized that timely intervention is crucial not only for justice but also to prevent the suspect from evading the law.

“We are calling on security agencies and other relevant authorities to ensure Timothy Gilbert is located and arrested,” Izegaegbe said. “The victim is in considerable distress, and the situation requires urgent attention.”

The case has sparked renewed discussions about rising assault cases involving corrosive substances in Nigeria, with advocates urging stronger enforcement and public awareness to deter future incidents.

Authorities are encouraging anyone with credible information that could assist in the investigation to come forward.
