Mali Reserves Six Fuel Stations for Military Use as Shortages Worsen

Mali’s Armed Forces have directed that military personnel based in Bamako and Kati must now refill their vehicles only at six specific fuel stations, following growing reports of soldiers waiting in long civilian queues amid a nationwide fuel shortage.

A statement from the General Staff said three petrol stations in Bamako and three in Kati have been set aside exclusively for defence and security forces. In Bamako, the designated stations include Petro Bama Sirakoro near OMAP, Soyatt Missabougou at the base of the Third Bridge, and Petro Bama Djicoroni Para near the Réal stadium. In Kati, the selected sites are Soyatt Koulouba, Petro Bama Fouga, and Petro Bama Malibougou near the market.

The army stressed that any uniformed personnel seeking fuel elsewhere will not receive priority and must join regular queues.

Mali has faced severe supply disruptions in recent months. As the country relies heavily on fuel imports from Senegal and Ivory Coast, deliveries have been badly hit since September 2025 due to attacks by the armed group JNIM — an al-Qaeda affiliate — targeting fuel trucks.

The General Staff reminded senior officers and department heads that they are responsible for ensuring full compliance with the new instruction.
