Mahama’s Leadership Sparks Economic Recovery — Ghana’s Reserves Climb to $12 Billion, Says BoG Governor

Ghana’s economy has recorded a significant rebound under the administration of President John Dramani Mahama, the Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr. Johnson Asiama, has announced.

Speaking at the launch of the 60th anniversary celebration of the Ghana Cedi in Accra on Tuesday, October 28, Dr. Asiama revealed that bold and coordinated policy decisions have led to notable improvements in key economic indicators.

He stated that Ghana’s economic performance reflects “a decisive turnaround,” attributing the progress to deliberate fiscal and monetary measures pursued by the government.

Dr. Asiama disclosed that headline inflation has declined to 9.4 percent as of September 2025, with further reductions expected by the end of the year. He also highlighted the 37 percent appreciation of the cedi as of October 17, describing it as the best-performing currency in sub-Saharan Africa during the first eight months of 2025, based on World Bank data.

In addition, he revealed that Ghana’s gross international reserves have reached about $12 billion, offering a strong safeguard against global economic pressures and reinforcing investor confidence.

“Our economy has regained stability,” Dr. Asiama affirmed. “With inflation at single digits, a stronger cedi, and robust reserves, Ghana is well-positioned for sustained growth.”
