M23 Rebels and DR Congo Resume Peace Talks In Doha

Negotiations between the Democratic Republic of Congo and M23 rebels have resumed in Doha, Qatar, but with little hopes of any peace deal being reached.

Reports say there is still deep mistrust, prisoner releases, and territorial disputes between the rebel forces and the Congolese government.

The latest talks follow similar ones held in July this year when a ceasefire agreement, the Declaration of Principles, was reached.

However, both sides have since accused each other of violating the Declaration of Principles.

According to reports, the
M23 delegation prioritized releasing its detained members over finalizing a broader peace accord in Doha.

“The release of M23 prisoners will be crucial for a comprehensive truce,” the source added, highlighting key obstacles to progress”, Anadolu news outlet cited a source as saying.
