Liverpool Crisis: Arne Slot Demands Apology as The Only Way Mohamed Salah Can Redeem Himself

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has indicated that Mohamed Salah will need to acknowledge his mistake and offer an apology if he hopes to return to the first-team squad, following the Egypt captain’s public outburst that claimed he had been “thrown under the bus.”

The tension has been rising since Salah’s comments after Liverpool’s 3-3 draw against Leeds, which led to Slot leaving the star winger out of the squad for the subsequent match against Inter Milan.

Slot’s Ultimatum: The Need for Remorse

Slot has kept the door open for Salah’s return but made it clear that the next step must come directly from the player. Speaking to compatriot Clarence Seedorf, Slot signaled that Salah could reclaim his place if he showed remorse.

Slot noted that the key question is whether Salah believes he made a mistake and who should take the initiative to resolve the situation. Slot believes there is always a possibility for a player to come back, yet he did not confirm whether Salah will feature in the upcoming match against Brighton.

The manager’s position confirms that professional discipline is paramount, even for a player of Salah’s caliber.

Virgil van Dijk Steps in to Mediate

Adding to the internal efforts to manage the dispute, club captain Virgil van Dijk has promised to speak with his unsettled teammate.

Van Dijk acknowledged he plans to talk with Salah, emphasizing that any apology or resolution must come from the player himself. He explained that Salah has been expressing his frustrations in recent days and that the matter is something for the club to manage internally. With AFCON approaching, Van Dijk stated their conversations will remain private as the team works to shut out external noise and stay focused.

Salah’s Potential Farewell

The uncertainty is further amplified by Salah’s own statements, who suggested the match against Brighton could be his farewell. He has expressed a desire to “say goodbye to the fans” before departing for the Africa Cup of Nations, fueling speculation that he is ready to force a permanent exit from the club in January.
