Ghanaian actor and filmmaker Kwadwo Nkansah, popularly known as Lil Win, has revealed that he rejected a $20,000 bribe to halt production on his upcoming biopic about Burkina Faso’s president, Ibrahim Traoré. The film, titled “The Last African Hero,” aims to chronicle Traoré’s rise to power and leadership.
In a video shared on his TikTok page, Lil Win disclosed that an unknown individual approached him and his crew around midnight, attempting to persuade them to abandon the project. The individual claimed to have been sent by a powerful figure who believed the film wouldn’t be beneficial. Lil Win showed what appeared to be an envelope full of U.S. dollars, stating that the man offered $20,000 as a bribe to stop the project.
Despite the offer, Lil Win publicly declared his commitment to completing the film, citing its potential to project Africa positively to the world. “This movie, I will never stop shooting,” he said. “I’m still on set shooting Ibrahim Traoré to support the vision of Africans.”
The film’s production has stirred controversy among some Ghanaians, with some expressing concerns about the project’s timing and potential impact. However, Lil Win has received support from fans and prominent figures in the Ghanaian creative industry, including veteran hiplife musician Okyeame Kwame.
Support from the Creative Industry
Okyeame Kwame and other fans have urged Lil Win to stand firm and move forward with the release. “Asem Aba!!!!! The awakening is real. PANAFRICANISM is a right,” commented quophiokyeame, while ghanaian.duchess questioned the motives of the individual who attempted to bribe Lil Win, asking, “What right does the person have to ask them to stop the movie?
Film’s Significance
The biopic has garnered significant attention since Lil Win released a teaser trailer on May 21, featuring himself and his cast dressed in military uniforms resembling those worn by Traoré and his comrades. The film’s success could contribute to a greater understanding of African leadership and politics.
Future Plans
Lil Win has announced plans to put his Ibrahim Traore movie on sale, inviting local television stations to purchase the rights to exclusively premiere the film. He is offering the exclusive rights to four channels at Gh₵ 100,000 each. This move comes after he allegedly turned down the $20,000 bribe to drop production.
The controversy surrounding the film’s production has sparked heated debates on social media, with some users expressing support for the project and others raising concerns about its potential impact. As the film’s release date approaches, fans and critics alike are eagerly awaiting the opportunity to see the finished product.
