Musa Kamara and Mamadou Jalloh Headline a Balanced Team as Sierra Leone Eyes Victory

With the 2026 FIFA World Cup Africa region qualifiers fast approaching, Sierra Leone’s national team—the Leone Stars—has officially announced its 25-man squad. Head Coach Mohamed Kallon has opted for a blend of seasoned veterans and emerging talent, setting the stage for high-stakes clashes against Guinea Bissau on September 4th in Bissau and Ethiopia on September 9th in Monrovia.

This squad announcement also marks the first major test under SLFA President Babadi Kamara, whose leadership has ushered in renewed optimism and accountability.

Among the most talked-about selections are Musa Noah Kamara, the fiery striker from Ports Authority, and Mamadou Wurie Jalloh, the 20-year-old goalkeeper from Brøndby IF, currently on loan in Finland. Their inclusion has sparked excitement—and conversation.

“The squad is a blend of experienced players and promising young talent, which creates a good balance for the national team,” said sports analyst Hassan Solokoh.

“Kamara brings maturity and skill, while Jalloh adds potential and unpredictability. Together, they offer a fresh dynamic.”

Kamara’s return follows a turbulent international stint, but his domestic form has silenced critics. Jalloh, meanwhile, represents a new wave of diaspora talent choosing to wear the green, white, and blue.

“Both players’ inclusion is a win for young footballers,” noted sports journalist Rehmi Wilson. “Jalloh’s call-up will inspire other Sierra Leonean players abroad to commit to the national team. His story is a case study in belief and opportunity.”

While the squad has been praised for its balance, Coach Mohamed Kallon finds himself under growing pressure. His early success as head coach—including two promising results—has raised expectations across the country.

“Kallon is a national icon. As a successful footballer and coach, much is expected of him,” said Solokoh. “But fans must understand—he needs time to build something lasting.”

Wilson echoed the sentiment, adding: “His bright start has made Sierra Leoneans believe he’s the man for the job. Now, every match feels like a referendum on his leadership.”

The 25-man squad features a strategic mix of 13 foreign-based players, including Jalloh, Steven Caulker, and Mustapha Bundu.

12 home-based players, led by Musa Kamara, Francis Koroma, and Alusine Koroma.

Veterans like Kei Kamara and Osman Kakay offer leadership, while younger talents like Momoh Kamara, Mustapha Bundu and Augustus Kargbo bring pace and unpredictability.

With the nation watching and expectations rising, the Leone Stars must now translate promise into performance. Backed by the Ministry of Sports, NSA, and SLFA, the team enters September’s qualifiers with unity, belief—and pressure.
