The Lagos State Police Command has officially taken popular social media influencer Habeeb Hamzat, widely known as Peller, into custody following a viral video that showed him driving recklessly and crashing his car during a live broadcast on Sunday, December 14, 2025.
The arrest was confirmed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, who stressed that the action was taken due to the grave risk posed to public safety.
Details of the Arrest and Charges
The police confirmed that the influencer’s actions posed a direct threat to the public.
“The Lagos State Police Command has arrested and detained, for further investigation, Habeeb Hamzat aka ‘PELLER’, subsequent to the viral video that surfaced online on Sunday 14th December, 2025, in which he was seen driving recklessly, leading to a dangerous road crash and serious motor accident, while the incident was being live-streamed, thereby endangering his life and that of other road users.”
The command described the stunt as extremely dangerous, noting that it could easily have resulted in fatalities. “His action constitutes a deliberate attempt to commit suicide and endangers the lives of other innocent people,” the statement read.
Investigation and CP’s Warning
Police authorities disclosed that the case has now been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a detailed investigation. The findings will be made public, and the suspect will be charged to the court of competent jurisdiction in accordance with the law.
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, issued a stern warning to the public against using online platforms to promote unlawful conduct.
“The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Olohundare Jimoh, strongly warns social media influencers, content creators and general members of the public to desist from using social media platforms to engage in or promote reckless, dangerous, or unlawful and criminal acts.”
He stressed that such lawlessness would not be tolerated and assured residents that the command would enforce the law without bias, urging all road users to comply strictly with traffic regulations.
