The Kwara State Police Command has officially confirmed a deadly bandits’ attack that claimed the lives of at least 12 people, including the Baale (traditional ruler) of Ogbayo, in the Ifelodun Local Government Area on Sunday morning.
The attack occurred around 7 a.m. when armed men stormed the Ogbayo area of Oke-Ode community, immediately opening fire and specifically targeting members of the local vigilante group.
Details and Security Response
A statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed the tragic toll. Operatives from the Police Command, working alongside personnel of the National Forest Security Service (NFSS), responded swiftly to distress calls. However, they found 12 members of the vigilante group, including the Baale of Ogbayo, deceased upon arrival.
- Casualties: 12 vigilante members confirmed dead.
- Injured: Four victims sustained injuries and were immediately rushed to a hospital for treatment.
The bodies of the deceased have been evacuated.
Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, described the killings as “heinous” and pledged the command’s unwavering commitment to the safety of lives and property. The police, military, and NFSS have since intensified manhunt operations to locate and apprehend the perpetrators.
This incident underscores a growing security challenge in parts of Kwara State, where communities, vigilantes, and business owners have been increasingly targeted by armed bandits in a wave of violent raids.
