William Samoei Ruto holding talks with Japanese business people
President William Samoei Ruto has revealed that his government is holding talks with Japanese car manufacturing giant, Toyota, for the provision of 5,000 e-mobility vehicles to Kenya.
According to Mr. Ruto, the talks on the provision of the e-mobility vehicles signifies Kenya’s commitment to clean energy.
President Ruto, who is in Japan for the ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9), made this known in a post on his official Facebook page.
He says “We are developing programmes in green growth, clean energy and sustainable climate-sensitive development in response to the climate phenomenon. As a result, we are seeking partnerships with Japanese automotive manufacturer Toyota Motor Corporation in e-mobility to begin the transition from fossil fuels.”
The Kenyan leader said “We are in talks with Toyota for the provision of 5,000 e-mobility vehicles, signifying our commitment to clean energy. This initiative will come with 30-40 per cent local content in e-vehicle assembly and eventually manufacturing.”
According to him, his government is also “seeking collaboration with the Japan Bank for International Cooperation in training our young and tech savvy population and de-risking start ups and small businesses,” revealing that he met with Japan Bank for International Corporation Governor, Hayashi Nobumitsu, in Yokohama City where the three-day TICAD9 Summit is being held.
