A state funeral for Kenyan opposition ODM leader, Raila Odinga, has been held in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya.
The funeral was held on Friday, October 17, 2025. On Thursday, October 16, several people were allegedly killed after Kenyan security forces opened fire to disperse huge crowds of mourners at a stadium a public viewing of Odinga’s body taking place.
Thousands of mourners attended the state funeral held at Nairobi’s Nyayo National Stadium on Friday. They waved white handkerchiefs and danced at the venue.
Kenyan President, William Ruto and his wife were in attendance to pay respect to Odinga.
Among the African dignitaries present at the state funeral was Somalia’s President, Sheikh Mohamud.
Odinga died aged 80 in India on Wednesday, October 15, 2025. He was said to have suffered a heart failure.
