Kashmir Man Detained as Investigators Uncover Details Behind India’s Deadly Delhi Car Explosion

Indian authorities have detained a man from Kashmir as part of an expanding investigation into last week’s deadly car explosion in New Delhi, which left eight people dead and more than 20 injured. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) announced on Sunday that it had arrested Amir Rashid Ali, alleging that he helped coordinate the attack and played a key logistical role.

According to the NIA, the vehicle that detonated near the historic Red Fort—an area considered one of the most secure zones in the capital—was registered in Ali’s name. Investigators believe he worked closely with the suspected suicide attacker, Umar Un Nabi, a resident of Pulwama district in south Kashmir. Nabi is accused of driving the explosive-laden vehicle to the blast site.

Officials say Ali traveled to Delhi specifically to arrange the purchase of the car later converted into a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED). In addition to his arrest, the agency has seized another vehicle linked to Nabi for forensic examination as part of efforts to map the broader network behind the attack.

The NIA confirmed that 73 witnesses, including survivors and bystanders, have been questioned as investigators piece together the timeline and motive behind the bombing. Authorities are also analyzing CCTV footage and digital communications to determine whether the two suspects were acting alone or were connected to a larger militant organization.

The Indian government has labeled the explosion a terror attack, the first major such incident in New Delhi since 2011, and has pledged swift justice. Enhanced security measures have since been deployed across key public spaces in the capital, with intelligence agencies placed on heightened alert as the probe continues.
