Nigerian Afrobeats star Kaestyle has delivered a bold musical statement with the release of his latest EP, Rookies Don’t Sound This Good, under KeyQaad Records. The three-track project sees the Port Harcourt native—born Kelvin Ibinabo Oriye—step into his own as a versatile artist, following up his 2024 single Forever and building on the momentum from his 2022 debut Kae’s Study.
Kaestyle, who rose to prominence with the 2021 hit Blem, continues to prove he’s more than a rising act. After earning a nod at The Headies 2025, where he cheekily hinted at shedding the “rookie” title, the EP arrives as a defiant assertion of his artistry. Featuring a blend of Afrobeats, R&B, and pop, the project leans into his dynamic vocal ability and storytelling finesse.
The opener Chineke features newcomer Starsamm and sets a melodic, heartfelt tone as Kaestyle navigates intense romantic emotions with spiritual overtones. The title track Rookies Don’t Sound This Good stands out as a swagger-filled centerpiece, with pulsing beats and genre-blending production that fans have interpreted as a subtle jab at the industry, affirming his readiness to lead the pack. The closing track How Much rounds out the EP with a seductive, club-ready groove, highlighting his lyrical edge and commercial appeal.
Signed to the same label as Omah Lay, Kaestyle draws from a wide range of influences, including 2Baba, Wande Coal, and Drake. His training in music at the University of Port Harcourt is evident in his polished delivery and musical depth. From singing to rapping, his versatility shines through, especially on past collaborations like My Dealer with Omah Lay.
As one of Apple Music’s artists to watch in 2025, Kaestyle’s new EP is both a sonic leap forward and a declaration of intent. Rookies Don’t Sound This Good is more than just a clever title—it’s proof that Kaestyle is ready to take his place among Afrobeats’ elite.
