Jospong Group Chairman Mourns 2 Ministers, 6 Others Killed in Tragic Helicopter Crash

The Executive Chairman of the Jospong Group of Companies, Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong, has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight prominent Ghanaians on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

In a statement shared with Africa Publicity, Dr. Agyepong described the incident as a “heartbreaking loss — to their families, to the government, and to the nation they served with honour and distinction. Ghana has lost true patriots.”

The crash claimed the lives of Ghana’s Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah; the Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed; and six others.

“On behalf of the entire Jospong Group, I extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved families,” Dr. Agyepong said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. May their souls find perfect peace.”

The accident occurred in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region. The victims were aboard a Ghana Armed Forces Z-9 helicopter en route to Obuasi when the aircraft lost contact with air traffic control and went off radar.

According to the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, the other deceased include:

• Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator

• Samuel Aboagye, former Parliamentary Candidate

• Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the NDC

The crew members who also perished are:

• Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala

• Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu

• Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah

The Ghana Armed Forces has launched an investigation into the cause of the crash.
