Johannesburg Hosts Landmark Launch of Two Groundbreaking African Supply Chain Books

Two transformative publications — Compendium of Supply Chain Management Terms and Strategic Sourcing and Industrialisation — were officially launched at Exclusive Books, Rosebank Mall, in collaboration with the University of Johannesburg Press (UJ Press).

Far beyond a literary milestone, the launch marked the beginning of a Pan-African awakening — rooted in home-grown knowledge, strategic collaboration, and the power of the written word to shape the continent’s industrial future.

Exclusive Books, Africa’s largest bookseller, and UJ Press, one of the continent’s leading university-affiliated academic publishers, joined forces to host this defining event. Their partnership underscores a shared commitment to capacity building, intellectual empowerment, and long-term continental transformation through African-authored scholarship.

“These are not just books; they are instruments of nation building,” said Professor Douglas Boateng, author and Africa’s foremost authority on supply chain governance. “No nation can industrialise without mastering strategic sourcing and supply chain management. Africa must think, plan, and act with purpose.”

The event was recorded for broadcast across West Africa, Ghana, and other parts of the continent as part of a broader initiative to spotlight South African publishing leadership and amplify access to transformative academic content.

Ronald Malazi, Managing Director of Commerce Edge South Africa, the continent’s largest privately-owned supply chain training institution, remarked:

“The Africa we dream of will be built by those who learn together and work together. We must continue sharing ideas, building capacity, and advancing for the common good.”

Wikus van Zyl, Manager at UJ Press, reinforced the publisher’s mission:

“At UJ Press, we publish with purpose. As one of the continent’s leading university presses, our role is to empower minds and shape meaningful progress.”

Shylock Matsunyane, Assistant Manager at Exclusive Books Rosebank, reflected on the importance of the occasion:

“It is an honour to launch books that don’t just sit on shelves but help move a continent forward. We are proud to be part of this legacy.”

As a next step, Professor Boateng — in collaboration with industrial partners — will embark on a Pan-African Industrialisation and Strategic Sourcing Roadshow. The initiative will focus on building local capacity and engaging youth, women, and future leaders through public lectures, executive roundtables, and cross-border knowledge-sharing forums.

The event concluded with attendees receiving signed copies of both books — a symbolic reminder of the vital role accessible and practical knowledge plays in shaping Africa’s self-determined future.

This was not merely a book launch. It was a continental call to action: for strategic thought, industrial resolve, and a united effort toward Africa’s transformation.
