Jadon Sancho will return to Manchester United for the 2025/26 season after Chelsea chose not to activate their obligation to buy the midfielder. Sancho joined Chelsea on loan in the 2024 summer transfer window, having fallen out of favor at United under Erik ten Hag. Chelsea were set to pay £20-25 million if they finished in the Premier League’s top 14 for the 2024/25 season but opted against the permanent transfer due to Sancho’s limited impact on the club’s hierarchy.
As a result, Chelsea will pay Manchester United a £5 million penalty for not fulfilling the agreement. Sancho is expected to join United’s pre-season camp, though he is likely to be sold before the 2025/26 season begins.
Despite not securing a permanent move, Sancho leaves a lasting impression with Chelsea fans, having contributed to their qualification for the 2025/26 Champions League and their Europa Conference League victory.
