Inter Milan has appointed Cristian Chivu as its new head coach on a two-year deal.

The appointment was announced on Monday, June 9, 2025.

Chivu played for Inter for seven years. He was a part of Inter’s treble-winning side in 2010.

His deal as head coach of Inter Milan will remain valid until June 30, 2027.

In a statement, Inter said “born on October 26, 1980 in Resita, a city of about 80 thousand inhabitants in Romania, Chivu discovered from an early age the value of discipline in order to succeed in the world of football.”

According to the statement, “in the seven years in which Chivu played for Inter, there is one episode that tells the story of his relationship with the club and fans, more than the successes, more than the trophies, more than the 169 appearances and 3 goals for the Nerazzurri. On Marcg 24, 2010, 77 days after suffering that terrible skull fracture in Verona against Chievo, Chivu returned to the field, wearing a protective helmet. A day that represented a new beginning for Cristian, who a few months earlier had risked much more than his career.”

Chivu replaces Simone Inzaghi who joined Saudi Pro League club, Al Hilal a few days ago.
