Infantino Assures African Fans Of Equal Treatment At 2026 World Cup

FIFA President, Gianni Infantino, has assured African football fans that they will not be treated as “outcasts” at the 2026 World Cup in the US, Canada and Mexico.

Responding to concerns from African journalists about the likelihood of African fans being treated as “second-class citizens” during the World Cup in the US, Mr. Infantino made reference to the FIFA Club World Cup held in the US in June this year.

African journalists had raised concerns about President Donald Trump’s advancing of what they called divisive rhetoric on immigration and travel bans.

The journalists had voiced fears that African visitors to the World Cup next year could be treated as “outcasts” or “second-class citizens”, citing tensions within the US political climate. They then urged Mr. Infantino to guarantee inclusivity at the World Cup.

But the FIFA President said such fears were misplaced. He made reference to the Club World Cup in the US which drew fans from 164 nations “without problems.”
