India has confirmed its participation in the Gaza Peace Summit scheduled for Monday afternoon in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt. Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh has arrived in Cairo as Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s special representative to attend the meeting.
Singh announced his arrival late Sunday on X: “Arrived in the historic city of Cairo as special representative of Prime Minister @narendramodi to attend the Gaza Peace Summit at Sharm el-Sheikh.”
Summit Details and India’s Cautious Approach
The summit is being jointly chaired by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and US President Donald Trump, and will bring together leaders from more than 20 countries.
According to the Egyptian Presidency, the meeting aims to:
- “End the war in the Gaza Strip.”
- “Strengthen efforts to establish peace and stability in the Middle East.”
- “Open a new page of regional security and stability.”
India’s participation follows a last-minute invitation extended to Prime Minister Modi by Presidents Trump and Sisi on Saturday. While there was initial speculation that Modi might attend in person, New Delhi opted to send Singh as its representative, reflecting a cautious approach amid sensitive regional dynamics.
World leaders expected to attend include German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, French President Emmanuel Macron, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, and UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
