A bridge over the Indrayani River in India collapsed on Sunday afternoon, killing at least two people and injuring 32 others.

 

Eyewitnesses reported a loud cracking sound moments before the bridge collapsed, according media outlet, India In Last 24hr.

Reports say the bridge collapsed in Pune’s Maval tehsil, near Kundamala village.

The collapse, which occurred between 3:30 and 4:30 pm, reportedly resulted in a large-scale rescue operation as emergency services rushed to the site.

Local authorities reportedly said the bridge collapsed while several people crossing.

Reports said several people were swept away by the fast flowing river, prompting a coordinated response involving disaster response teams, divers, and police.

Rescue operations continued late into the evening as efforts to locate missing persons intensified, reports say.
