Botswana Olympic gold medal winner, Letsile Tebogo, and the country’s entire Olympic team have received hero’s welcome.
Tens of thousands people took over Botswana’s biggest stadium on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 to welcome Tebogo and the team back home after their triumph at the Paris Olympics.
Citizens waved Botswana’s blue-and-black national flag as Tebogo and the rest of the team members arrived in Gaborone, Botswana’s capital, on Tuesday.
As the athletes touched at the airport, Botswana President, Mokgweetsi Masisi, could not help but dance on the tarmac.
Tebogo became the first African to win the Olympic men’s 200m when he defeated Americans Kenny Bednarek and Noah Lyles in Paris on August 8, 2024. He won Botswana’s first ever Olympic gold.
On arrival in his home country, he and the other athletes paraded the National Stadium of Botswana on a rooftop bus.
The President declared a half-day holiday to celebrate Tebogo’s Olympic triumph.
