Rhode beauty founder Hailey Bieber has shared a detailed look into the medical complications she navigated during her pregnancy and the intense nature of her labor. Appearing on the SHE MD podcast with Mary Alice Haney and her OB/GYN, Dr. Thaïs Aliabadi, the 29-year-old revealed that she was diagnosed with a uterine septum before welcoming her son, Jack Blues.
The Diagnosis: Moderate Uterine Septum
Hailey disclosed that prior to becoming pregnant, Dr. Aliabadi had identified a septum in her uterus—a genetic condition where a thin wall divides the uterine cavity. While Hailey was initially told she might need surgery to correct the issue before conceiving, she unexpectedly became pregnant.
Medical Risks Identified:
- Miscarriage Risk: Dr. Aliabadi confirmed that for a “moderate” septum like Hailey’s, the risk of miscarriage is between 25% and 40%.
- Preterm Delivery: There was a 10% to 20% risk of the baby being born prematurely.
- Expanding Wall: Hailey noted that the “scare” grew as the baby did, as the septum expanded along with the uterus.
“Luckily, everything was opening and doing what it needed to do,” Hailey shared, noting that she remained optimistic despite the daunting statistics.
A “Surprise” Pregnancy
The pregnancy came as a shock to the couple, especially since her physician had explicitly advised, “Don’t get pregnant!” until the septum was properly monitored. Hailey recalled her reaction at the time: “I was like, ‘Okay. Well, I’m not thinking about getting pregnant right now, so we’ll just cross that bridge when we get there.’ And then I magically got pregnant.”
The Birth: “The Hardest Thing I’ve Ever Done”
While the pregnancy progressed safely, the birth itself presented its own set of challenges. Reflecting on the arrival of Jack Blues (now 19 months old), Hailey described the labor in a 2025 Vogue interview as “not fun” and “crazy.”
Despite nine months of physical preparation and pelvic floor exercises, Hailey opted for a natural birth without an epidural. “They broke my water. I went into labor and I labored for a few hours. No epidural, nothing,” she told Vogue. She concluded that giving birth was the most difficult physical feat she has ever accomplished.
Family Milestone
The revelations come as Justin Bieber, 32, recently celebrated his birthday. The couple has remained largely private about their son since his birth in 2025, but Hailey’s recent transparency has offered fans a deeper understanding of the “scary” journey they underwent to start their family.
