At least 50 Muslim worshippers have reportedly been killed in an attack allegedly carried out by gunmen on a mosque and nearby homes in the northwest Katsina state of Nigeria.
According to local officials and residents, at least 60 persons were also abducted by the gunmen.
Multiple reports say the deadly attack took place on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, in Unguwan Mantau within the Malumfashi District of Katsina State.
According to reports, the attack when just when Muslim worshippers gathered for Fajr, the Islamic dawn prayer.
Eyewitnesses said gunmen arrived on motorcycles, opening fire inside the mosque.
Reports say after the attack on the mosque, the gunmen went through the village, attacking residents.
Reuters cited Aminu Ibrahim, a lawmaker representing Malumfashi, as saying at least 30 people were killed and 20 others burned alive
Meanwhile, the spokesperson for Katsina police, Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, says police officers intercepted the gunmen and succeeded in preventing a planned attack on two other villages, adding but while fleeing through Mantau, the gunmen opened fire on residents.
