The National Organizer of Ghana’s governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Joseph Yamin, has reiterated that Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) remains the sole authority with the exclusive right to buy, sell, weigh, grade, assay, value, and export gold in Ghana.

Speaking at a miners’ engagement in Agona Amenfi, within the Amenfi Central Constituency, Yamin emphasized that GoldBod operates under the oversight responsibility of the Ministry of Finance and in accordance with the Ghana Gold Board Act, (Act 1140) 2025.

Yamin highlighted that GoldBod is committed to excellence in precious minerals trading, value addition, and customer satisfaction, which is deeply rooted in its vision, mission, core values, and statutory mandate.

He further noted that the GoldBod initiative is the product of extensive stakeholder consultations, designed to maximize foreign exchange inflows, build gold reserves, and promote value addition for sustainable economic transformation.

“Our goal is to become a world-class gold trading organization, promoting sustainability, traceability, and value addition for economic growth,” Yamin stated.

Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament for Amenfi Central in the Western Region, Joana Gyan Cudjoe, urged miners in her constituency to form a small-scale mining association to enable them to operate within the framework of proper, regularized mining practices.

Cudjoe, who is also an advocate for community development, expressed concern over the numerous challenges facing the constituency, including inadequate road networks, poor telecommunication services, lack of potable water, sanitation issues, and insufficient rural electrification.

“If all the miners in the municipality come together as one family and engage in responsible mining, they can significantly support local development projects and reduce government project costs,” she stated.

Investing in Education and Infrastructure

In a demonstration of her commitment to the community, Cudjoe revealed that she has personally donated her salary as an MP to support education within her constituency.
Additionally, she has established a block factory with the capacity to produce 6,000 blocks per day to support local construction projects.

Cudjoe is also spearheading the construction of a modern Aquaculture University in Agona Amenfi to boost agribusiness in Ghana and provide practical skills training for local youth.

“I am committed to ensuring that all miners in this constituency operate securely and responsibly, and that we collectively work towards improving the lives of our people,” Cudjoe affirmed.

As the engagement concluded, both leaders called for collaboration between miners, local authorities, and the government to create a more sustainable and economically vibrant mining sector in Ghana.
