Global Outage Disrupts X Service, Millions Locked Out Across Multiple Countries

Millions of users around the world were unable to access X on Monday after the social media platform suffered a widespread outage that cut across multiple regions.

The disruption first surfaced in the United Kingdom, where users reported problems loading the site. Within hours, the outage spread to other parts of the world, including Nigeria, where users began experiencing access issues shortly after 1:00 p.m.

In the United States, more than 42,000 users flagged service failures, while over 45,000 similar reports were logged in Japan. Users in Canada, Australia, France, and Germany also reported being locked out of the platform.

For many, the experience was frustratingly similar: the website stalled on the X logo or displayed an error message saying, “Something went wrong. Try reloading.” On the mobile app, timelines failed to refresh or appeared completely blank—although prompts encouraging users to subscribe to X Premium continued to show.

Despite the scale of the disruption, the company—owned by billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk—had not issued an official explanation as of the time of reporting. Unlike several other major social media platforms, X does not maintain a public system status page, making it difficult for users to track real-time service issues. Its developer platform, however, continued to indicate that “all systems are operational,” a claim that appeared at odds with user experiences.

The latest outage adds to growing concerns about the platform’s stability. X has experienced several service disruptions in recent months, including incidents late last year and one just last month. Some of those outages were linked to broader internet infrastructure problems, including network issues involving Cloudflare that affected multiple websites worldwide.
