Ghanata SHS Bursar Picked Up Over Alleged Diversion of Students’ Food Supplies

Authorities have arrested the bursar of Ghanata Senior High School following allegations that food provisions meant for students were being diverted.

The Member of Parliament for Shai-Osudoku and Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Ocloo, confirmed the development after what she described as credible complaints emerged in recent weeks.

According to the Minister, the reports suggested that the school’s bursar, Lamisi Sarah, had been redirecting portions of food supplies intended to support student feeding and welfare — a situation she described as deeply troubling.

Investigation Triggered by Complaints

Ms. Ocloo said she promptly alerted the constituency’s National Security apparatus to carry out a discreet investigation into the claims. The inquiry reportedly confirmed the alleged activity while she was in the constituency on Tuesday, February 17.

Following the confirmation, the suspect was apprehended and subsequently handed over to the Police for further investigation and possible prosecution.

“I directed the officers to hand her over to the Police so that due process can take its full course under the law,” the Minister stated.

Concerns Over Student Welfare

Ghanata Senior High School, located in Dodowa in the Greater Accra Region, is a public second-cycle institution under Ghana’s education system. Like other public senior high schools, it depends on government-supplied food items to sustain its student population, particularly under the Free SHS policy framework.

The Minister stressed that any diversion of food supplies directly affects students’ nutrition and undermines trust in public administration.

She further noted that such incidents weaken confidence in state institutions and vowed that anyone found culpable would face the full rigours of the law.

Commitment to Accountability

Ms. Ocloo reaffirmed her commitment to safeguarding student welfare and ensuring transparency in the management of public resources within the region.

Police investigations are expected to determine the extent of the alleged diversion and whether additional individuals may have been involved.
