In a bold move to promote transparency and accountability, President John Dramani Mahama has issued a stern warning to all government appointees, stating that those who fail to declare their assets by the end of the first quarter of 2025 will face severe sanctions, including possible removal from office.

This declaration comes after Mahama officially submitted his assets to Auditor-General Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu at the Jubilee House on Tuesday, February 18, 2025. In a brief but firm speech, Mahama urged his appointees to comply with the constitutional requirement of asset declaration, emphasizing its importance in enhancing transparency and strengthening the fight against corruption.

“I have also taken this step to send an unmistakable signal to all public office holders, especially those that I have appointed, that I take the declaration of assets very seriously and expect full compliance from them,” Mahama stated.

He further directed the Chief of Staff to ensure that all appointees declare their assets by March 31, 2025, warning that failure to meet the deadline will result in severe sanctions, including removal from office.

Mahama’s move reinforces his administration’s commitment to accountability and good governance, ensuring that public officials uphold integrity in the discharge of their duties. This directive aligns with Article 286 of the 1992 Constitution, which mandates public officials to declare their assets upon assumption of office.
