“Ghana’s greatest resource is not gold or oil, it is you” — Adutwum tells the youth

Former Education Minister, Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagberer hopefully , Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, has underscored the central role of young people in Ghana’s development, describing the nation’s youth as its most important resource, ahead of gold, oil, and other natural endowments.

In a message shared on his Facebook page on Sunday, January 4, Dr Adutwum argued that sustainable national progress depends on investing in people rather than relying excessively on extractive resources.

“Ghana’s greatest resource is not gold or oil, it is you,” he wrote.

Focus on skills and discipline

Dr Adutwum said the quality of a nation’s human capital ultimately determines its success or failure, stressing that disciplined, skilled, and hopeful young people are the foundation of long-term growth.

“When the youth rise with discipline, skills, and hope, the nation rises with them,” he added.

He encouraged young Ghanaians to remain focused on education, skills acquisition, and personal development, noting that background or current circumstances should not define future potential.

“Your time is coming. Prepare for it,” he urged.

Political context

The message, shared under the hashtag #TheAdutwumFactor, forms part of Dr Adutwum’s broader engagement with young people as the NPP’s internal presidential race gathers momentum.

The party is scheduled to hold its presidential primary on January 31, 2026, with five contenders vying for the flagbearer position ahead of the 2028 general elections.

The aspirants include:
• Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, MP for Bosomtwe
• Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, former Vice President
• Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, former MP for Assin Central
• Dr Bryan Acheampong, MP for Abetifi and former Minister for Food and Agriculture
• Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, former NPP General Secretary

Broader message

Dr Adutwum’s comments align with ongoing national discussions on youth unemployment, skills training, and education reform, with many policymakers increasingly emphasizing human capital development as critical to economic diversification and resilience.

He has consistently advocated policies that prioritise education, innovation, and youth empowerment, positioning these as essential pillars for Ghana’s long-term transformation.
