Tension has risen at the residence of the Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin South Constituency in Ghana, John Ntim Fordjour, as National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) officials allegedly attempt to arrest him.

The MP’s supporters, including top officials of Ghana’s main opposition, New Patriotic Party (NPP), have gathered at his home to resist the arrest.

The Reason Behind the Attempted Arrest

The NIB’s attempt to arrest Fordjour stems from allegations he made about two suspicious flights from Gran Canaria, Spain, which landed at Kotoka International Airport. Fordjour suspects these flights may be involved in drug trafficking, and the NIB wants him to assist with investigations.

NPP Officials React

NPP General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua took to Facebook to raise alarm over the situation, posting: “N.I.B. is currently at Hon. Ntim Fordjour’s residence to arrest him. #SayNoToStateIntimidation.” National Organiser Henry Nana Boakye also posted: “REV NTIM FORDJOUR’S HOUSE HAS BEEN INVADED BY THE NIB. WE ARE ALL MOVING THERE NOW. #SayNoToStateSponsoredArrest.”

Warning from Government

Minister of State Felix Kwakye Ofosu warned that Fordjour risks arrest if he fails to honor the NIB’s invitation for questioning. “If he doesn’t show up, he will be hauled into custody,” Kwakye Ofosu asserted.

Condemnation of NIB’s Actions

Legal practitioner and NPP member Samuel Atta Akyea condemned the NIB’s actions, describing them as a “blatant breach of due process.” The situation remains tense, with Fordjour’s supporters and NPP officials standing firm against the alleged NIB operation.
