Ghana’s Anti-Corruption Drive: Office of the President, 10 Institutions Undergo Corruption Risk Review

The Office of the President of Ghana and 10 other key state institutions are set to undergo a corruption risk review as part of a broader effort to strengthen transparency and accountability in Ghana’s governance structures. The review, scheduled for June 6, will coincide with the High-Level National Anti-Corruption Conference, where the African Union Advisory Board Against Corruption (AUABC) will lead an assessment of Ghana’s anti-corruption policies and institutional effectiveness.

Strengthening Anti-Corruption Commitments

Deputy Government Spokesperson Shamima Muslim described Ghana’s decision to subject itself to the assessment as a bold step toward reinforcing its anti-corruption commitments. The review will examine key institutions, including the Office of the President, Ministry of Justice and Attorney-General’s Department, Office of the Special Prosecutor, and several other critical agencies.

– Ministry of Justice and Attorney-General’s Department

– Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ)
– Ghana Audit Service

– Parliamentary oversight committees
– Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC)
– Public Procurement Authority (PPA)
– Civil society organizations, such as the Ghana Integrity Initiative and the Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition

High-Level Conference

The High-Level National Anti-Corruption Conference, themed “Revitalizing the Anti-Corruption Architecture in Africa: Ghana’s Accountability Journey,” will bring together AU officials, legal experts, policymakers, and development partners to discuss measures to strengthen anti-corruption frameworks across Africa.

Ghana’s Leadership

Muslim emphasized that Ghana’s leadership in anti-corruption reforms has been commendable, citing improvements in oversight institutions such as the Office of the Special Prosecutor and CHRAJ. The review and conference aim to further strengthen Ghana’s anti-corruption efforts and promote transparency and accountability in governance.
