Ghanaian SWAT Officer Sentenced to Life Imprisonment for Murder of Girlfriend in Kumasi

A police inspector with the Special Weapons and Tactics Unit (SWAT) has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his girlfriend at Adum in Kumasi.

The Kumasi High Court on Friday, October 24, 2025, found Inspector Ahmed Twumasi, popularly known as Tycoon, guilty by a 5-2 jury verdict.

Twumasi had earlier pleaded not guilty when he first appeared before the same court on July 26, 2023.

According to the prosecution, the officer shot 26-year-old Victoria Dapaah, also known as Maadwoa, multiple times in the abdomen and chest on April 20, 2023, at about 9:50 p.m. near Adum. The victim, a mother of one, was rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, where she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Her uncle later reported the incident to the police, prompting a specialized operation that led to the arrest of Inspector Twumasi at his hideout in Sekyere near Effiduase in the Ashanti Region.

The court’s ruling brings closure to a case that sparked widespread public outrage over violence against women and the conduct of security personnel.
