Ghanaian musician Wendy Shay has opened up about one of the toughest moments in her career — facing widespread online bullying and criticism after signing with RuffTown Records following the death of singer Ebony Reigns.
Speaking in an interview with Headless YouTuber on Monday, October 20, Wendy recounted how she was harshly judged and attacked on social media for being perceived as Ebony’s “replacement.”
She admitted that the intense backlash made her consider quitting music but said her determination to pursue her purpose kept her going.
“I’ve always been that person who goes to the end of it. I want to see the outcome. I knew I was here for a reason. It was tough, but I knew going back wasn’t part of the plan,” she shared.
Wendy also revealed that her family, especially her mother, became deeply worried about the emotional toll the constant online harassment was having on her.
“Even though my mom told me I should come back because it was serious. It was like scandal after scandal every week. Someone would take my picture, edit it, and then they’d just bully me and mock me and harass me on Twitter,” she recalled.
The “Survivor” hitmaker noted that the negative attention didn’t just affect her personally but also had an impact on her loved ones.
“As a mother or a family member, when you see someone you’re close to go through that, it doesn’t just affect them but how people see them as well,” she added.
Despite the early challenges, Wendy Shay has since established herself as one of Ghana’s most resilient and successful female artists, turning her struggles into a story of strength, perseverance, and self-belief.
