Police in the Savannah Region of Ghana have launched an investigation after the body of a 31-year-old motorbike mechanic was discovered brutally murdered on the outskirts of Larabanga, near Damongo.
The victim, identified as Ganiu Zackaria — popularly known as “No Pen” — was found at dawn on Thursday, October 23, lying in a pool of blood with his motorcycle and a black goat beside him.
According to local residents, Ganiu, who lived and worked in Damongo, was allegedly ambushed by unidentified attackers who slit his throat in the early hours of the morning.
A community leader, Ahmed, told JoyNews that the grisly discovery shocked residents. “I was still in bed when my younger brother woke me up with the sad news. I know him — he’s a motor mechanic from Damongo, and they call him No Pen. It appears his killers followed him, slaughtered his throat, and left a goat and his motorcycle beside him,” he said.
The disturbing scene has stirred fear and speculation among residents, with some linking the killing to recent livestock thefts in the Damongo area. The Damongo-wura, Seidu Kelly, and his elders had earlier warned local youth, particularly those involved in meat trading, to refrain from criminal acts following reports of stolen animals.
Though such incidents had declined in recent months, Ganiu’s death has reignited community concerns and uncertainty about possible motives behind the attack.
Police sources at the Savannah Regional Command confirmed that the body has been taken to the St. Anne’s Catholic Hospital mortuary in Damongo for preservation and autopsy.
