Ghana’s Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has detained popular dancehall musician, Shatta Wale, over alleged money laundering, possession of proceeds of crime, tax evasion and tax fraud.

Shatta Wale, real name Charles Nii Armah Mensah, has been in the news lately for the wrong reasons.

His management in the statement released on X (formerly Twitter) confirmed he has been detained.

The statement issued by his publicist Sammy Baah Flex, on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, says his detention is linked to the purchase of a yellow Lamborghini.

According to the statement, “This follows an inquiry related to tax obligations on the purchase of a yellow Lamborghini vehicle.”

The statement says Shatta Wale was accompanied by his lawyer Cephas Biyuo, and presented himself voluntarily at EOCO’s offices in Accra to assist with the investigation.

Meanwhile, his management has assured fans that the situation is under control.

“We want to assure all fans and the general public that his legal team is fully engaged and actively working with the authorities to resolve this matter. They are taking all necessary steps to secure his release at the earliest opportunity.”
