The government has announced plans to deploy 5,000 graduates in agriculture and veterinary science across the country to support the implementation of its flagship Feed Ghana Programme, aimed at improving food production and sustainability.
Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang made the announcement at the 2025 Asogli Yam Festival in the Volta Region on Sunday, October 5, highlighting the initiative as part of broader efforts to modernize the agricultural sector.
According to her, the deployment seeks to translate research findings into practical on-field solutions, strengthen extension services, and boost productivity through modern farming techniques.
“This initiative includes 5,000 graduates in agriculture and veterinary science who will work side by side with farmers nationwide—providing modern extension services, sharing new techniques, and bridging the gap between research and practice,” she stated.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang emphasized that the Feed Ghana Programme targets key challenges such as erratic rainfall patterns, post-harvest losses, and limited market access. She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting vegetable farming through greenhouse technology, irrigation systems, and other critical interventions.
She also noted that significant allocations have been made to the agricultural sector in 2025 to support complementary initiatives like the Vegetable Development Project and the Nkokɔ Nkititi poultry programme.
To attract more youth into agriculture, the Vice President said the government is prioritizing credit facilities and agribusiness training programmes, particularly in the Volta Region.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang further commended the Asogli Yam Festival for promoting youth engagement in agriculture and celebrating the contributions of farmers to national development.
