In a significant diplomatic boost, Ghana has secured the support of China, Australia, and the United States in its development agenda. The Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, His Excellency Tong Defa, led the charge, expressing China’s willingness to collaborate with Ghana’s government to achieve its transformation goals.
Ambassador Tong Defa commended President John Dramani Mahama for his “incredible” speech at the Chinese Lantern Festival Celebration, which highlighted Ghana’s openness to Chinese investors. He emphasized China’s commitment to supporting Ghana in various areas, including bilateral trade, cooperation, and investment.
The Lands Minister, Hon. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, welcomed the Chinese Ambassador’s remarks, highlighting the long-standing partnership between Ghana and China, which dates back to the era of Ghana’s first president, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

In separate meetings, the Australian High Commissioner to Ghana, Her Excellency Berenice Owen-Jones, and the United States Ambassador to Ghana, Her Excellency Ms. Virginia E. Palmer, also pledged their countries’ support for Ghana’s development.
The Australian High Commissioner offered personnel and logistical support to help Ghana tackle its illegal mining challenges, while the US Ambassador discussed ways to deepen bilateral cooperation, particularly in forest management and women’s empowerment programs.
The Lands Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to promoting legal and sustainable mining activities, creating a conducive environment for investors, and boosting productivity and value addition in the mining sector.
This diplomatic breakthrough is expected to strengthen Ghana’s relationships with these key international partners, paving the way for increased investment, cooperation, and development.
