Ghana: Three Die in Mining Pit Collapse at Manso Takorase in Ashanti Region

Three people have been confirmed dead after a mining pit collapsed at Manso Takorase in the Amansie South District of the Ashanti Region of Ghana.

The incident occurred on October 1, 2025, when six individuals were working in an abandoned mining pit that caved in, trapping them inside.

Speaking to Citi News, the Assembly Member for Manso Takorase, Bonsu Dominic, said rescue teams managed to retrieve three people alive, while the remaining three were found dead in the pit.

The Amansie area, noted for its extensive mining activities, has recorded several similar accidents in recent years, raising renewed calls for stricter enforcement of mining regulations and improved safety education for workers.

The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the St. Martin’s Catholic Hospital morgue, while police and local authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the collapse.

This latest tragedy follows a similar incident at Kasotie in the Atwima Mponua District, where seven people lost their lives and five others sustained injuries.
