Ghana Suspends Medical Director Over Death of Accident Patient Who Was Abandoned In Bush

The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has temporarily suspended the Medical Director of the Trauma and Specialist Hospital, Winneba over the death of a female accident patient who was allegedly abandoned in a bush and left to die in the process.

GHS in a statement signed by its Director-General, Dr. Patrick Kuma-Aboagye, said the Medical Director was suspended to allow for an independent investigation to be conducted into the matter.

According to the statement, a committee has been constituted to conduct an independent enquiry into the matter to enable the GHS take appropriate action.

The Ghana Health Service had in an earlier statement indicated that an accident patient was abandoned in a bush at Gomoa Ojobi in the Central Region by a hospital’s ambulance staff, only to reportedly be found dead later.

GHS in a statement dated Friday, June 14, 2024, cited a media report that claimed the patient was on admission at the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba and after her relatives failed to show up, she was conveyed in the hospital’s ambulance and left in a wheelchair at Ojobi where she claimed to be her hometown and was later found dead.
