Ghana Shuts Down 9 Radio Stations

The National Communications Authority (NCA) of Ghana has shut down nine Ghanaian radio stations for various alleged regulatory infractions.

NCA announced the closure of the stations in a statement released on Tuesday, August 12, 2025.

According to the statement, the closure of the stations “follows the expiration of the 30-day grace period granted by the President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama for defaulting stations to remedy the violation of the laws and regulations governing FM radio broadcasting in Ghana.”

NCA said in the statement that “six (6) stations failed, refused and neglected to comply with the regulatory amnesty by taking no action.”

The statement said three other stations were suspended for operating without a Certificate of Compliance in violation of Regulation 54 of the Electronic Communications Regulations, 2011, L.I. 1991.

Three of the suspended stations belong to Wontumi Multimedia Company Limited. The rest of the stations are Dreams Ghana Media Limited, Jewel Group Limited, Donplus Multimedia Limited, Kpandai Star Community Radio, Unique Gateway Communication Limited, and Jam Multimedia Limited.
