Ghana has sacked about 100 of its postal service staff members in the wake of an investigation into alleged irregular recruitment.

The West African nation’s Communications Minister, Sam George, authorized the dismissal of the nearly 100 staff members at Ghana Post Limited, citing irregularities in the recruitment process.

The affected staff were employed after the December 7, 2024 presidential election, during which proper procedures were allegedly not followed.

Mr George says the irregular recruitment created inefficiencies within the department, with positions filled without due process. He emphasized his commitment to “cleaning up” the ministry, ensuring it operates efficiently and effectively.

The move is part of a broader effort by the government to address post-election employment irregularities in the public sector. George stated that he cannot inherit a “mess” and expects to work with staff members employed through proper channels.

The dismissed staff members are among 600 recruited after the December 7 election. George has vowed to continue the “rationalization” process, aiming to create a lean and efficient ministry.
