The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has extended the implementation time for Ghana’s controversial Ghc 1 Energy Sector Shortfall and Debt Repayment Levy.
GRA delayed the implementation of the levy due to resistance from oil marketing companies.
The implementation of the levy was originally scheduled to take effect today, Monday, June 9, 2025. But the Ghc 1 per litre has faced rejection from the Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC).
COMAC raised concerns over the timing of the levy and its potential impact on fuel prices and burden on consumers in Ghana.
As such, GRA has told the media that following discussions and “in the spirit of cordiality and partnership”, a new implementation date of June 16 has been agreed upon.
According to GRA, “The Association has concerns with the 9 June implementation date. We have discussed with their leadership in the spirit of cordiality and partnership and have agreed a new start date of 16 June.
