President John Dramani Mahama has relaunched Ghana’s National Sanitation Day initiative.
During the relaunch in Accra on Saturday, September 6, 2025, President Mahama donated essential sanitation tools to the BuzStopBoys.
The donated items included 200 wheelbarrows, 300 shovels, 300 brooms, 300 pairs of hand gloves, and a supply of standing brushes.
According to President Mahama, the donation “aims to bolster their commendable efforts in championing sanitation initiatives across the country. Their dedication to fostering a cleaner environment must be exemplified.”

He explained that “the National Sanitation Day is more than just an event; it is a renewed call to action for every Ghanaian to take ownership of our environment. Let us all commit to maintaining clean communities, not just on designated days, but every day.”
He says “Let’s build on this momentum! I urge all Ghanaians to join hands and actively participate in keeping our surroundings clean.”
About the National Day
The first Saturday of every month is earmarked National Sanitation Day across Ghana. First declared on November 1, 2014, by President Mahama’s first administration in response to the 2014 Ghanaian cholera outbreak, the day is a voluntary clean-up exercise for all Ghanaian residents in an effort to reduce unsanitary conditions that breed diseases.
