The Northern Regional Police Command of Ghana has launched a full-scale investigation into the reported disappearance of a newborn baby at One Heart Hospital, located at Lamashegu, a suburb of Tamale, leading to the detention of two nurses and a security guard for questioning
According to the police, the case was reported to the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) on Sunday, December 21, 2025, at about 10:30 a.m., after hospital authorities and the family raised concerns over the missing baby.
Initial Findings
Preliminary investigations suggest that an unidentified woman, who allegedly posed as a nurse, gained access to the hospital’s labour ward and took a newborn baby boy. She is said to have deceived hospital staff and the baby’s relatives by claiming she was taking the child to administer an injection.
Persons Assisting Investigations
As part of ongoing inquiries, police have picked up two nurses—Abubakari Fatima Bintu and Grace Asiedu Mensah—who were on duty at the ti me of the incident. The security guard on duty, Abukari Iddi, has also been detained to assist with investigations. Police stress that the individuals are not yet charged and are being questioned to help establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
Search and Intelligence Operations
The Police Command says intelligence-led operations have been intensified to locate the missing baby and identify all persons who may be connected to the alleged theft. Officers are also reviewing hospital security protocols, staff movements, and access records as part of the investigation.

The Northern Regional Police Command has assured the public and the affected family of its determination to unravel the case and ensure the safe recovery of the baby.
Police have also appealed to the public to volunteer any credible information that could assist in locating the child or the suspect, assuring that all tips will be treated with strict confidentiality.
