Ghana: One Life Lost, 16 Hurt as Tyre Burst Triggers Bus Crash at Peki Tsame

A routine journey turned tragic on the Peki–Asikuma highway in Ghana’s Volta Region when a commercial bus crash claimed one life and left 16 others injured.

The accident happened at Peki Tsame, close to Mawutor Inn, after a Toyota Hiace bus (registration GT 7012-24) reportedly suffered a rear tyre burst. The driver lost control, causing the vehicle to somersault off the road.

Emergency teams from the Ghana National Fire Service rushed to the scene. Firefighters from the Peki Fire Station, led by ADO I Godwin Gbedemah, worked quickly to free passengers who were trapped inside the wreckage.

The injured—eight men, seven women, and a child—were stabilized on site and transferred by the National Ambulance Service to the Peki Government Hospital for treatment.

Hospital authorities later confirmed that one victim succumbed to injuries after arrival. The remaining patients are receiving care and are reported to be in stable condition.

Officials are reminding motorists to prioritize vehicle maintenance, particularly tyre checks, as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
