A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communications Team, Hamza Suhuyini, has urged the party to focus on delivering good governance and fulfilling its campaign promises rather than engaging in early discussions about who will lead the NDC into the 2028 general elections.
Speaking on Citi FM’s The Big Issue on Saturday, October 4, Suhuyini cautioned against internal competition following a new Global InfoAnalytics poll that ranks Tamale South MP, Haruna Iddrisu, as the frontrunner to succeed President John Dramani Mahama.
“For us in the NDC, the objective now is to remain true to the social contract we signed with Ghanaians, based on which they gave us an overwhelming mandate on December 7, 2024,” Suhuyini said. “That should be the focus of every NDC member, including His Excellency John Dramani Mahama.”
He emphasized that President Mahama’s performance during his current term would be crucial in shaping both his legacy and the party’s future prospects. “His performance will go a long way to impact our political future,” he added.
The Global InfoAnalytics poll places Haruna Iddrisu ahead with 30% support, followed by NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia at 24%, and Finance Minister Ato Forson at 18%. Other notable figures, including Julius Debrah and Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, trail behind.
The survey also indicates a close contest between Asiedu Nketia and Ato Forson in the event that Haruna Iddrisu does not contest, particularly among core party supporters and voters in key swing regions.
