The National Illegal Mining Operations Task Force (NAIMOS) of Ghana has tightened its grip on galamsey activities after arresting a nine-man criminal gang operating in the Anhwiafutu Forest Belt within the Atwima Mponua Forest Reserve.
The suspects, who were rounded up last week during a special operation, were initially kept at the Kumasi Central Police Station. Over the weekend, they were transferred to Accra and officially handed over to the Ghana Police Service for further investigations.
According to NAIMOS, five of the suspects are currently being held at the Kotobabi Police Station, while the remaining four have been detained at the Cantonments Police Station.
The task force has assured the public that it will sustain pressure on criminal groups until the fight against galamsey is won.
